Migrante Canada Launched Text Message Campaign in Support of Migrante Partylist and Teddy Casino
Montreal, Quebec – Migrante Canada is calling on all its member organizations across Canada to launch a simultaneous text-message campaign on April 13, 2013 – in time for the start of the 30-day overseas absentee voting period – to support Migrante Partylist and Makabayan senatorial candidate Teddy Casiño.
The idea behind the campaign is to have Filipino migrant and immigrant workers in Canada who are members of Migrante-affiliated organizations send text messages to their relatives and friends in the Philippines with the following message: “IBOTO ANG MIGRANTE PARTYLIST, # 96 SA BALOTA, AND TEDDY CASINO SA SENADO, #6 SA BALOTA.”
Migrante Canada has been urging all registered Filipino absentee voters in Canada to participate in the Philippine May 13 elections and vote for Migrante Sectoral Party (MSP) and Rep. Teddy Casiño for senator.
“As Filipinos abroad we have to get involved in the process of pushing for political change back home through electoral means,” said Migrante Canada Chairperson Tess Agustin.
“We need more progressive voices both in the House of Representatives and the Senate that’s why we need Migrante Partylist and Teddy Casiño,” Agustin added.
To this day, the estimated 15 million Filipinos around the world have not had representation in the Philippine congress from their own sector.
“Now is the time for the country’s overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) to make their voices heard and through Migrante Partylist assert their right to genuinerepresentation in Congress,” said Jonathan Canchela,Coordinator of Migrante Partylist in Canada and fourth nominee. “A vote for Migrante is a vote for OFWs and their families.”
